The Actress States Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says the Actress
During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was acting frantically without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, celebrities have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Raised by conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and revealing she realized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was voting against her own rights as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “since I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend abortion access.”
Celebrity Views
The star was supported by numerous celebrities in her rejection of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term feels different,” noted she about his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a recent parent who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. During a press conference for the movie in the film festival, the star commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by stating that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discourse of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
She attempted to refocus frustration about the situation to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has denied the story being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, she revealed that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, not long after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I took it for a short period and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the liberating necessity of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
