Tuchel Desires Jude Bellingham's Passion So Long As England's Star Sets Aside His Ego Outside.

One snub did the trick. Another and it could have seemed spiteful from Thomas Tuchel, who is extremely shrewd not to know that securing World Cup glory will likely need the involvement of Jude Bellingham, even if it is equally Bellingham's responsibility to blend into the game plans and player rankings necessary with the national team now that he is returned to the manager's welcoming fold.

The manager seeks Bellingham's edge, his intensity, but it is a matter of harnessing it appropriately. Individual quality matters but the squad have learned the hard way that there is consequences when stardom prevails. Nevertheless, a point has been made.

Bellingham had plenty to reflect on after not being selected of last month’s squad. He watched the national side qualify at the tournament in his absence. He watched Morgan Rogers excel as a counterpressing No 10. He listened as the coach mention appreciating the team's dynamism and ethics. Naturally, Bellingham has responded in winning fashion, scoring crucial goals for Real Madrid versus their rivals and Juventus. Inclusion was a must; another omission would have put his tournament chances hanging by a thread.

The expectation is that Tuchel will have a midfielder focused on frightening rivals rather than his own colleagues. After all, on a pure footballing level, there is no value to starting a conflict with one of the best players in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time not playing has shown him that playing for one's country is a valuable, uncertain thing. Tuchel, on his side, can now offer support around the youngster after proving that he is willing to make big calls.

“There is no problem with him, there is no problem with the character,” Tuchel said. “Jude just has a competitive streak. It takes a certain edge to succeed at the top that he reached. We all must support him and build a setting which he can [have] that intensity in matches and in pursuit of success we are working towards as a team.”

Bellingham dominated most of the attention at the team news conference for this month’s final group games versus Serbia and Albania. Who else? Indeed, what about another talent? Here is another prodigious No 10 who needs support and direction. Foden has not played for England since March and has struggled to reach his best recently but Tuchel had to consider the player after his display in his club's victory against the German side this week.

The issue, however, is the best way to deploy the multiple playmakers at England’s disposal. Rogers and Eze have earned their places and there will be compelling reasons to include Cole Palmer once he is fit after a ongoing injury. Is selecting multiple creators to the tournament be an overkill? The previous manager never found the correct balance at Euro 2024. He made concessions by forcing Foden and Bellingham into the same XI, cramping Harry Kane’s influence as a result.

It is hard to see Tuchel doing similar if it hurts the attacking balance. Space exists for a single playmaker, with speedy wingers on the flanks. Clear roles helps. He is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, selected for the first occasion, is a central midfielder and the recalled Wharton will vie with another player as a defensive midfielder. Additionally, there is no position on the wing for Foden, who has to be central. Tuchel wants him close to Kane. “It does not make sense to tell Phil: ‘You are needed in the team but no spot exists in your preferred role, could you fill in at the left side? Or the right wing?” he stated. “He is to feature in the central attacking zone, through the center. I have this fantasy about him for a long time. In my view it suits him the most.”

Tuchel conceded there are occasions when the player has not looked himself in an England shirt. “One senses as if, ‘Is he truly happy? And someone of his caliber who has this childish joy for the game, then obviously something is not right, whether it's the position, the setup, it's unclear.

“I think he is additionally accustomed to representing his club in a specific system, with a defined role. Believe he benefits greatly from clarity. What is my position? Where exactly am I to receive the ball? Where am I supposed to push the tempo? What are my to defensive duties?”

Tuchel mentioned Bellingham bursting through for tap-ins and the other netting strikes from outside the box. He said he has a longlist of 60 players. Morgan Gibbs-White, Myles Lewis-Skelly, James Trafford and the midfielder have dropped out. A new face is rewarded for his excellent performances for Manchester City at defense. Intrigue abounds.

Leaving out of the striker means there is no like-for-like alternative for Kane in this squad. Interestingly, Tuchel suggested deploying the playmaker as a deep-lying striker versus one opponent or Albania. Other options, the United forward, Bellingham and Jarrod Bowen are other options if Kane be absent. Since the place is booked, this is a moment for a little experimentation.

Meanwhile, it is also a chance to get Kane’s relationship with Bellingham flowing. It's surprising that one must look back to the latter setting up the captain to net in an international match versus the Scots in over a year ago to find the one and only time in 35 games for the national team when the duo linked up for a score. The coach will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only exchanged the ball once during the team's ties with Denmark and another at the European Championship. Their partnership is lacking.

“This is where eventually it falls to the responsibility of the players,” he stated. He does not shy away to deliver home truths. Remains a feeling of the player being on trial. He cannot even be guaranteed to begin versus Serbia and Albania. Tuchel desires Bellingham committed but he will be watching him carefully. Leave self-importance outside. It will make a powerful England team into an superior one.
